Augmented Reality in Marketing
This week I read “A marketer’s guide to augmented reality” by Adam Broitman.
It’s not a quick read, but it’s worth your time. Broitman explains how AR works, includes lots of video examples, and cautions us not to believe everything we see on YouTube.
Broitman predicts that 2012 will be a big year for AR. His advice to marketers? “The need for well-designed natural user interfaces will be of paramount importance in the way a brand reaches its consumers. Consumers will begin to expect an on-demand brand presence in this new world of ubiquitous access. If your brand is not there to greet them, you may not be there when the time comes to make a purchase.”

I think AR will be a much more successful marketing tool when each AR app doesn’t require its own app from the app store. I actually like QR codes and scan them often. I have gone to the app store to download a specific app for a marketing AR app but I no longer do so unless I’ve heard that it is really worthwhile.
